Dialysis Patient
I am Jagannathan, aged 45 years. I am a resident of Tiruverkadu, working as tailor. Married with 2 school going children. Was diagnosed to have kidney disease in Feb 2016 in a private hospital and was started on dialysis. I was traveling 18 km up and down for my dialysis and was spending 5 times the amount of what im spending now for dialysis. I am very thankful to the donor who supported tanker to start a dialysis unit in my village. Like me, there are several patients from this village.

Betul district is predominantly a tribal distric! comprising the Gond, Gawali and Korku tribes. The main occupation of these communities is agriculture which depends solely on the rain. Due to irregular rains, the economy of the district is not in a good condition; hence health care is low on the priority list.

It is only when the health problem grows to an extent which affects the normal life of the individual, then the family seeks health care. Their first port of call is usually the medicine man/ local healer and if this brings no relief, it is then they come to a medical institution.

There are cases of renal failure in our district but due to unavailability of treatment, many people suffered a lot. Dialysis facilities exist with a few private service providers but these are expensive and it is difficult for the economically bacli:razard and tribal communities to afford them.

Padhar Hospital is very thankful towards Fairfax India Charitable Foundation for its initiative ofdialysis unit installation in the hospital. This has provided convenient and economical dialysis therapy for patients of renal failure. Through the Fairfax India Charitable Foundation initiative, dialysis has become within the reach of common people both economically and well as geographically. 0therwise, patients needed to travel out ofBetul District for dialysis.

The administration and management of Padhar Hospital is very thankful to Fairfax India Charitable Foundation towards their initiative of dialysis unit installation which will help the communities of Betul District.
